I'm going to be painting my bedroom in the next couple of weeks and I was wondering what I should do with my tanks and fish. I wouldn't want anything to get into my tanks. Any suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks,
Stella

Is it possible to move them to another room? I think the paint toxins will be very harmful, after all they aren't too good for humans. If possible, I would def. consider moving them to another room, and make sure every window is open for the fumes to escape, although I'm sure you would probably do that anyway. If moving the tanks are out of the question...maybe someone has another idea?

If the tank is big, then cover it with a towel and turn off your air pump if you have one. Maybe even turn the filter off or possibly tape off any openings with duck tape. Make sure to leave the windows open and turn on any fans you have.

A way to move semi-big tanks: siphon out almost all the water leaving only a couple of inches and move it.

From someone who lost a handful of very dear fish due to unexpected painting: move them out, if at all possible. Not just the fish, either - the whole tank. If it's completely out of the question, cover them completely with taped-down tarp, don't open the tarp up, keep the windows open and fans running, and cross your fingers.

I say it is more dangerous moving the tank. Take your chances and keep the rooms well ventilated with air conditioning on and windows open.

I have recently comleted a complete house painting using several types of paints.

I have never done any thing special to the tanks over 40 years when painting. There are several common sense things that should be done any way. Extra ventalation, add fans, heat the room even in summer this helps the paint to dry quicker which means less fumes. Some paint fumes are real toxic.

I have seen Aqu do massive paint/alterations using all of the above and never a problem.
