This link will explain what I mean.

I removed a huge piece of DW when I lost the M Betta to give more room for the Cardinals and do a bit of re scaping.

One very noticable feature is the Cardinals still prefer to stay at the RH end of the tank. The young ones often go over there but soon came back.

I am thinking of turning the HOB filter down and feeding on the LH side and make them come across
Any ideas on this?

I think they're hanging out on that side because the space is relatively open. In the cardinals' eyes, who knows what could be lurking in that anubias? Feeding on the left might help, but it's possible they'd still just move back once the food's gone.

I wonder... the 40L is in close proximity to your keyboard and monitor ( re: post in photo gallery with your cat perched on the tank top) if there may be some sort of electromagnetic field or a low tone computer noise resonance that draws the cardinals to that side, or maybe they just like the openness on that side.
Try that, feeding on the left side see what that does....
just a thought

Yes the screen and key board are extremely close but when every thing is off nothing changes.
I have also noticed it is the young ones that venture over there.

I fed them on the LH side and they went across for that but came back as the food moved towards the RH side.

Interesting thought, but I'm actually talking the opposite opinion!

The anubias on the left are all very low growing, with no cover for the upper zones. In essence, the fish are totally exposed from above. On the right side, there are some taller plants (some kind of crypt?) providing cover from the surface, while still giving a bit of cover in the lower zones.

Last night just before the lights went off one adult and one young Cardinal were playing in and out of the Anubias.

One reason for noticing this action it is next to the computer and next my desk work area.

I am now feeding from the LH side to see if there are any reactions. They came across but went back after feeding.

I don't know, but all my cards hang out in the right end of the trank as well. They'll come to the middle only, it seems, for food. Possibly the current from the filter down there? Or mayhaps its because the left side has a rock that houses a nice little pair of ottos?

No filter HOB and it is in the center of the back, Only one Otto at moment others on order. There is a air wand but when that was in the center (just trying a few things out) they would actually swim and play in the fine air bubbles. When new heater arrives no air wand
