Hey guys,
Will 2 300 watt heaters heat my new 375 gal tank(10x2x2.5) propperly?
Atm i only have the 2 300w heaters from my 205 gal(8 footer),as the new tank holds more than 100 extra gallons,im wondering if 2 heaters can handle the extra load?

Hi,
Depending upon where you live and how high you have to
raise the water temperature, the normal "rule of thumb" is
to use 5 watts/gallon. By that I mean if you keep the tank
in a room that is normally kept at, say 72 degrees and
your desired tank temperature is 78, then you might be
able to "skimp" a bit and stick with a couple of 500 watt
heaters. If you choose to go "under power" then the
heaters will run longer than normal in an effort to get
the tank up to, and hold, the desired temperature.
Running longer heats up the contacts, and runs the heater
element red hot, for much longer than the normal "duty
cycle" the result is a shortened life of the heater. It
works harder, for longer, and dies sooner than normal.

For that tank, with that recomendation you need a total of
1,875 watts. It would be best if you have heaters at each
end of the tank so the normal circulation eliminates dead
and cold spots.

It's always better to use a higher wattage heater(s) than
under power heaters.
