I'd like to know if its possible to keep a bristlenose with a red tailed black shark? I just need a theoretically based answer as I havent bought a tank yet for this but I will as soon as I can figure out how much weight my floor can hold .

(structural engineers cost heaps so Its going to be a while 'till I get my big tank)

Depense on how big your tank is. I have a rainbow shark that is similar to the red tailed black shark and i have had no problems. They should do fine together.

as I said earlier I just need a theoretical answer. Any tank size will do. Smallest necesary would be interesting.

Can I ask you why you feel the need to hire a structural engineer? It is pretty simple to figure out how much weight your floor can hold. If it is on the ground floor, assuming there is a cement foundation underneath, You dont have much to worry about. If it is on the 2nd floor, I would limit your tank size to no more than 150-200gallons to be safe. Any floor above that assume the same principle. As all floors are pretty much built the same, it wont really matter if you are on the top floor of a building.

Theoretically, yes they can go together.

OK, YES they can go in together. Good that is what I was after.

Sneaky_Pete I cannot assume that I can put a 150-200 gallon tank in upstairs as there are differant building regulations everywhere. I do not own 100% of the house and I am unsure of what load capacity my flooring joists and their spacing can hold. Every house is differant and I dont want my upstairs loungeroom aquarium end up in my brothers bedroom .

The real question is; what other fish do you want? That shark can get pretty aggresive towards others.

I have three RTS including one large fella. There are six+++ Bristlenoses and they all live and feed happly together.
This could be because of all the nooks and cranies they can call their own including several large hollow pieces of driftwoood.

All I want to know is what sort of territories will they need to co exist. Is there anyone here with some experience in keeping these 2 together?

I have one RTBS with 2 Bristlenose, no real drama between the two, the bn seem to chase each other around, but the shark is peaceful with everything I have including tetras, cories, gouramis, a betta and rainbows. I guess it depends on the individual fish

Troy, I have never kept an RTBS, as I don't care for them really. But, I can tell you that I have kept the BNs with every fish I currently have, including West Africans, Rift Lake Africans, CA, SA, Asianic fish, ect. I have never had any problems with them.
