Now that the sub zero temps have finally hit the room is cold (60s at one end and probibly high 50s where the tanks are). It is a longish room and the only heat is in the other end where my bed is. The heaters have been holding the temps at 78º but I'm wondering if they are working too hard? (I think one is a 50w and the other a 75w) I have a couple of options 1. switch the bed and dresser so the tanks are in the warmer part of the room and then freeze myself. 2. move the tanks into the other room and forget about setting up the 100 gal till spring or 3.leave things the way they are and let the heaters do their job. For a ten gallon and a 5o watt and 75watt heater one of those tank is getting 5watt to the gallon and the other is getting 7.5. The heaters imo are made to heat cold tank and They should do fine there. fish1 |

In any case I wouldn't worry too much, the heaters are obviously maintaing the temp....depending on what fish you have in there you might consider dropping the tank temp by a few degrees (no more than 2 degrees a day) to prevent the heaters from getting overworked. You can also try conserving the heat in the tanks, Cover them with a blanket @night, or use styro on the outside. ^_^ ![]() Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] ![]() |

I was just worried about my betta boys getting cold. ![]() I haven't quite deciced what to put in the 100 gal but I am thinking about a large cichlid (midas/red devil or an Oscar) or two. (why else have such a big tank??) ![]() Steph Last edited by doedogg at 22-Dec-2004 08:30 ~ Mae West |

I would get another heater. Keep it as a spare just in case of a heater failure. If that happens no need to panic just replace the heater without losing much of the water temp. Just a little something for you to think about. Thank goodness we dont have that problem in OZ well where I am any way if fact it can often be the opposite during summer.
