Dan,

Nice sleepers. I wonder if they actually sleep in there or if they just rest. Was that shot taken during the day? If so, what are these guys doing? Aren't they supposed to zoom through the tank during the day .

sorry forgot to say that from the way the rock is positioned there would be a slight current coming out of the hole that the fish are sleeping in

a slight current coming out of the hole

Does that mean that you have the hole open on the other side and a powerhead is blowing water into it?

Or how do you do that?

Ingo

Anything else going on with the tanks? How are the plants doing?

there are small holes and crevices throughout the rock and the other side is under the overflow of the hob filter,
plants are doing fine one annubias has 3 flowers, have been doing a bit of overtime lately to get some money for more plants and wood and backgrounds and fish

thinking of experimenting with a soil substrate coved with sand to see what happens and of making a 4 ft sump for my 8 ft tank (but thats another thread)

also my brother in law has some interesting little fish in the holding tanks at the local water treatment plant
http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/threads/27083.1.htm?6#

and i think ill set up a 3ft with water from there so i can go catch some.

thinking of co2 to help the crypts in tank 4 grow quicker , think its worth it?

the electric yellows are starting to move the substrate around(one of my pet hates) so i think they will go back to the lfs and i will get some small schooling fish , any suggestions?

Personally - Nah. Except if you have the money and don't know what else to do with it.

About the yellows, aren't they African Lake fish? And doesn't that mean that your ph is pretty high? Which one of the tanks are they in anyway (you have so many that I always get confused)?

hey,

Just for the fun of it, why don't you measure your ph?

Or do you know it and don't want to share it with us?

IMHO,

It means that the ph is just fine for the Electric Yellow .

As all fish from the two African Lakes (Malawi and Tangania) prefer higher ph than neutral. Malawi fish seem to tolerate lower levels than the Tanganians, but still above 7 or even 7.5. Yellows are from the Malawi lake.

Dan,

You should make a stock list for all your tanks! What is in the tank from the picture? I like the drift wood. Is it stuff that you found in the bush?

tank 3 going great, today i put 4 3cm bristlenose and 3 5cm SAE and 15 3cm bronze cories in there. still my favorite tank by far. just goes to show , spend a few extra dollars and do the tank exactly right the first time and you wont have to touch it again. i am a big fan of small bioloads so well have to see if the new fish upset the balance or not

ingo the glasses are both,in the town where i live about 80% of the people work in heavy industry so if you arent wearing orange and PPE you dont fit in.

yep the BN will hopefully get it on and i can give some to the lfs , my last batch of eggs hatched and were going fine until we got a very hot day and killed them all.

Have you been drinking while doing this job?

That would make it even more amazing than it already is. How did you manage to wiggle this huge thing into the tank when there is the cross bar on top? That must have been a really tight fit .

In any way, I think it looks nice. Do you have a vision of blending it in more with the scape, like adding moss to the wall or something?

And what was that electric yellow trying to do during the setup - suicide by air breathing? Where was the school of fishies during that time?

Nice job, you sure know how to do it

I was wondering what was going on with the fish too! It looks pretty nice in your tank and it seems your fish alreay dig it! I like the idea of addint moss to it but I am not sure how one would go about such a thing unless doing it before adding it to the tank. Maybe you can crame some chunks of moss and fern in the cracks? Just an idea. Oh and it looks much much better with the black back.

the electric yellow that beached himself is doing fine,as are all the other fish, i could say that i measured the new background perfectly to ensure a snug fit, but the only measurement i took was for length. also i am a bit surprised by the difference in colour from the substrate as they are the same sand gravel mix.

eventually plants will cover most of the front, im a bit disapointed in how much the grey stands out , i may take it out and paint it one day

wings which black back were you talking about?

well its a sad day today, it got cold enough to put heaters in my tanks, ugly things they are. with all the cyclones around lately the temp has dropped from about 35 deg to 25 deg each day and it even rained where i live for 3 days, so when i checked temps this morning the tanks were down to 22-23 deg so time for some new heaters

Dan,

I guess you have been through these temperature changes before, right? I would assume that the fishies will be fine, so far, as the changes are very gradual and 22 is still not dangerously low.

Yeah, bad weather can really be depressing. We, up here, are just getting started to awake from our winter sleep, I can't wait until it gets warmer.

with all the cyclones around lately

It is really fun how we all have different words for the same thing. Lucky for my one of my classes talked about how down under giant spinning tropical storms are known as cyclones not hurricains.

Must be nice to not need heaters most of the time!

Dan,
Looks like your tank is growing it really well. I like how you have just a few different types of plants and a nice mix of colors. Might be nice to sneek in some hard scape though before the plants over take all the space.

Dan,

Nice pictures as always!

My convicts have fry right now in my 55G. They are very interesting to watch. This time around it seems as if the partenting is being split between the mom and the dad. Each has a batch of young with them at either end of the tank.

Thanks for the fish list!
