I was thinking of getting some dwarf puffers to go along with my dwarf gouramis and harlequin rasboras. there is also a dwarf pleco in there. anybody know how they'll get along? I also have a molly tank that I might put some in.

Dwarf puffers, if I'm not mistaken, are brackish. Mollies are BW fish, but plecos and gouramis aren't. So you couldn't keep them together, you'd want to get a seperate tank.

EDIT: I am mistaken. FIgure 8 puffers are BW, but the regular dwarf puffers are not. They do best in species only though, as has been said. Sorry bout that. *kicks self* Maybe I'll be thinking next time.

Dwarf puffers are FW, but they can and will nip the fins right off of other fish. I think they'd be much better suited to a species tank.

Dwarf pufferfish are notorious fin nippers, and they would probably tear up your other fish. They are best kept in a species tank, or with tougher, bigger fish.

dwarf puffers are fw and they aren't bw at all and they don't like 'a bit of salt'
i'd personally buy another small tank ie a 10g and keep a few in there

Dwarf puffers are very vicous little nippy fish. Even with there small size, they can cause alot of damage to a community tank. They are best kept in a species tank. Hope i have been of service.

Dwarf Puffers and Ottos are what i have. 1 Dwarf puffer per 3 gallons is the recomendation. Also more female then male is also recomended if you can sex them. It will also keep the agressiveness down this way to. I currently keep mine in a 29 gallon but i think a 20 gallon long is more of a logical choice.

OK, I found a way to unload my mollies.A not-so l fs will take them and trade some yo-yos and dwarf puffers. First tho I have to change the water cause I'm putting the dp's in the molly tank. Would it be ok to just do a partial water, like maybe 50% and then do more as the dp's come in? Or just change it all. I'd like to retain some of the water in there.Would i have to clean the gravel? There is a bit of salt in there but i think that aggressive water changes might turn the trick. am I wrong?

Aren't you already cleaning your gravel during water changes?

I don't take it out and wash it, but do as thorough a job as i can with the vacuum thingy. the tank's fairly new, only about a month old. but I'll do it in the future, when its time

Never take all the gravel out & clean it. There is good bacteria that needs to live there. Also, don't ever change more than 50% of the water. I do that weekly.

i have 3 dwarf puffers in with orignally 4 gouramis, 2 bettas and 2 glassfish. also had an eel and catfish. the puffers fin nipped the gouramis a bit, but not much. but tehy went after the bettas big time. i had read they were fin nippers, but i didn't realize how bad. now i do and would never buy them again for a tank of anything but just exclusively dwarf puffers. don't be seduced by thier cuteness. they can be visious. one of the bettas died (someone killed him. not sure who). gave the other away to a friend's wife. the gouramis (one died too) are all growing thier fins back. actualy, they've all grown back now. haven't seen the puffers nip anyone since i got rid of the remaining betta. but like i said, i'd avoid them.
