There really is no "standard" when talking about a 2 or 4 foot tank, as the width and height are never the same. [link=All Glass]http://www.all-glass.com/products/aquariums/standard.shtml" style="COLOR: #FFFF00[/link] can give you a general overview of "standard" tank sizes, and you can also use the [link=Site Calculator]http://www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/convert.asp" style="COLOR: #FFFF00[/link] to find the volume of other tanks HTH, Tim |

You can get "tall" aquaria and long aquaria too, not to mention hexagons, bow fronts , tubes ovals, cubic etc.In the old days 2 used to be approx 20 gallon -ish , 3's 30 gallon- ish and 4's were 40 gallon -ish but now they generally increase the height even more on even standard tanks so obviously the volume increases.Even common manufacturers like tetra are doing odd non-standard sizes now. Dont forget there is a significant difference between us and uk gallons too. |

Once all the substrate, aquscape and any extras go in it can be greatly reduced. My 46Lt came down to 31Lt When I added the water one Lt at a time to get it accuratly but with a big tank use a bucket be sure to measure the bucket first. All this takes time but it is the only safe way to know exactly how much water is in your tank. LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | Keith’s entry about net volume made me think of why this information is actually important. Naturally, dosing of plant fertilizers and medications came to mind. But then again, I was wondering if instructions for dosing are requiring the tank owner to know the net volume of a tank (which I believe is rare other than estimated). I would assume that the dosage is concerning the gross volume, means a 29G has 29 Gallons. Then I thought about another reason why net volume is important – stocking. And I think this one is the most important of them all. Just my thoughts on the gross vs. net volume of tanks. Ingo |
