	how long can fish go without eating??
r0b3y Enthusiast Posts: 261 Kudos: 262 Votes: 41 Registered: 07-Nov-2004	now that its the xmas weekend.. me and my family will be leaveing the house for 3 days.. what should i do to make sure the fish dont go hungry for those 3 days?? or will they be fine? i have rasboras and platys.. cheers

Now one thing you should be sure not to do is over feed them before you go, feed them normally and be on your way and feed them normally first thing when you get back. Many people think over feeding before you leave will help which is not really true. Fish can only metabolize a certain amount of food effectively at a time and the rest is converted to waste and the nutritional value is lost. Feeder bricks can mess up your ph and automatic feeders allow the food to get humid and fungus over so I don't recommend either of them. Last edited by john.stone at 21-Dec-2004 19:46

mariosim Enthusiast Posts: 207 Kudos: 245 Votes: 20 Registered: 28-Jul-2004	i have left mine alone, with no food or light, for 15 days on several occassions with no problems. 3 days is nothing to worry about. heed john.stone's warning about the feeders and blocks- 3 days is way too short a span to worry about.
