I wouldn't even have to touch the tank itself -- just the ba Has anybody ever done this? Would I be an idiot if I tried? |

However, it's not "gently sliding" it was more of a shove, reset footing, and shove again. That tank can weigh around 150 pounds with half the water out, not counting the stand weight. If the stand is on casters then the move is of course much easier on you and the assembly. I'd syphon it all down to about a half inch remaining and then move it. You can save the "old water" and pour it back once the move is completed. and unless you have small fish that the 1/2 inch to 1 inch of water won't bother, you should catch the fish and put them in the bucket as well. Maybe I'll try that, then see how easily I can slide the tank and stand. If it's still hard, I'll take out the rest of the water and the fish and move it empty, then put everything right back in. |

And the tank was almost full. With a 30 gallon, it might be a little more difficult. As said you want to get the weight as light as possible before you try to move it. So lowering the water level a little more might be a good idea. With the 10 gallon setup, I had to push start it. Then I was able to slide it the rest of the way. As soon you get it moving with the push or pull, keep going. Or else you will have to keep pushing it inch by inch. |
