So I'm doing a water change and completed the water change. There are two ac 300 and I clean one and left the other for next time. I went to kick back on the filters and out of the one that I never clean there was about half a dozen of orangish worms that are only about 3/16 of inch long or smaller. None are attached to the fish. Are these a type planaria?
thanks openwater....................

Sounds like planaria to me. Why dont you clean that particular filter? Sounds like it is very overdue for one.

Keeping the tank clean and maintaining the filters well will ensure that there is nothing for these worms to continue surviving on. Make sure your gravel is vacuumed regaularly and that any uneaten food is removed.

Openwater --

You can siphon some water out of your tank into a bucket, take the media out and squeeze it clean in the water in the bucket. I'm not sure if you're doing this or rinsing it under tap water. The latter is bad, you should be rinsing them in tank water. Do you ever clean the filter box and impeller and such? That should be done once a week. Even some sludge can lower your gph by 20%
