My Betta killed 2 ghost shrimp I had with him; he didn't eat them, just killed them. Another 50 cents down the tubes!

My betta commits homicide on snails...I don't know if this is common though
every once in a while there is a "wierd" if you can call it that, fish that does soemthing most ohter fishes of its kind wont. For example some bettas eat ants mine unfortunately do not. Perfectly normal it veries from fish to fish.

oo i would go with a shoal of like 8 johney darters, my 1 munches any snail he sees, he flips them over, waits till they try to come out, then grabs em and shakes em free, and they may not be colorful but they have lots of personality, and they have "w" s and "m"s going along their sides, oo and they change color, from dark to light, to match their surroundings

My Yoyo loaches dont eat snails
I ended up with some pond snails in my 25g, and they are currently now in the 20+ mark and spreading rapidly, the yoyos will "sniff" the snails and then leave them alone. They show no interest whatsoever.
Odd eh?
Also, my YOYO loaches are Pink with Brown markings, all the other ones I ever see are white with black markings. Maybe mine are a different species?

Many LFS's, etc. keep fish in pH's out of their ideal pH range, so, IMO & IME, fish can thrive, not only survive in a pH different from its native water's pH as long as the pH is kept at a continous level

Unless, you are keeping a biotopical tank or something...

Try a pygmy puffer. I borrowed one from a friend and he munched his way through my population. Loaches worked until they discovered that bloodworms and black worms were just as tasty and much easier to eat.

*agrees with Timothy*
What point were u trying to make? Tim just corrected u so that people don't get the wrong idea about acidity and alkalinity.

And you should have picked up on that

There was nothing to pick up. He simply had to correct an error, nothing more.

whether its acidic or alkaline isn't the point i was trying to make.

What was the point? I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong, just pointing out inaccurate info so people don't learn the wrong thing and get confused. It seems you were confused as well, as slightly alkaline water is just what you have, but the numerics don't coincide. Just tryin' to help ya out.

the profile says they like water a little alkaline, about 6-6.5. my water is about 7.2 to 7.5
]

A pH of under 7 is considered acidic, above 7 is alkaline

Anyway, fish can live outside of their "ideal" ranges quite easily, as long as the fish is acclimated to the new pH slowly, and the water is kept constant.
