Hey,

I have a 4 foot, X 18 inches, X 18 inches and i use a side filter and a canister filter. The water stays relatively clear however my canister filter has started to make a terrible vibration noise in hte very top, whenre the suction fan is. It is an eheim filter...Do u guys have them where u are? and if so do u have troubles with them??
I have pulled it apart several times and i can see nothing wrong!

Hmm it sounds like u had the same problem that i had.
What happened to me was that the fan in the head had worn out and as it rotated, it clicked on the spining thingo...anyways i just bought another eheim fan for about 17 bucks..i think..and this fixed the noise problem, and my filter ran extremely smoothly afterwards.

peace

I think you either need to replace the impeller (the spinning thingy that if you pull it out is actually a magnet with a little fan blade on top) first pull it out and see if it is busted or still working. If it is busted replace it, if not, then it is likely part of the motor, the fan, or the impeller drive shaft thing.
I have an Eheim 2217 and a Fluval 204 on my 90g tank, and a Cascade 200 on my 25g tank, and a Aquaclear Mini that I detest on my 10g tank.

I have a Eheim 2026 Pro 11. They are certainly not the cheapest on the market in fact the opposite possible the dearest and considered the best.

It will all depend on your $$$ account

On the brighter side it might be that impella needs replacing.

hehe.. this is the US, we can get one.

I have the Pro II 2028. I think I paid somewhere around $250 or so couple years back.
no problem with this one, and super quiet.

your impeller probably needs a replacement. how long have yours been running? which model?

Yeah, I'd guess the impeller.

I have an Aquaclear 300 and a Fluval 304 on my 55g and an Aquaclear 150 on my 35g hex w/ powerhead.

I have a Whisper Advanced PF 20-40 on my 29. When i add gravel to the curently bare bottom I'll probably stick in a UG/F. But then I'll have to get a Python, and those are $25...

my 55g S/A Planted Biotype will have a Filstar XP-3 and maybe a BIO-Wheel Pro 60 with Penguin 1140 to add extra bio-filtration/water circulation fo0r the Discus and Apistogramma and tetras and pleco and cories and snails (phew, that was long.)

I use an aquaclear 300 on my 29.. It does not flow like when it was new (so old I forget when I bought it), so it's fine for my planted tank.. There's also a sponge in the intake to reduce flow further and keep fish fry and plant matter out..

I cleaned my impeller a few days ago and it made a noticable difference in performance.. First thing to check if you haven't for awhile.

magnum 350, i love it now that i paid 40 bucks for the double quick disconnects for when you are cleaning it but i still dont like the way the filter is set up. i think other canisters have layers where the water travels through compared to the magnum which has a filter sleeve that slips over a plastic housing where you can place your carbon.

also have a penguin 170 w/ bio wheel that i really like. they are great because if you have to set up another tank just switch the bio wheen to the new tank and you have an almost instant cycle.
