Im adding another layer to my DSB of aragonite sand and im not sure weather i should was the sand first (Apart from take out large pieces of material). I've heard that the silt from the sand can be beneficial o the sand bed is this true? thanks

The sand will seperate and the fines will go to the bottom, and the corse sand will end up on the top. Yes, it will be benificial.

If you wish to wash it, put some in a bowl and slowly run water in to it while swerling the bowl around, this will get the fines to flow out. Otherwise, just ad it to the tank. Fill a bowl with sand, add water from the tank, then slowly sink the bowl to the bottom of the tank and slowly turn it over.
