I added about 15 lbs of crushed coral to my tank earlier today, making sure I rinsed it thoroughly first, but my water is still almost as cloudy as milk. My filter doesnt seem to be helping at all. Any suggestions?

Did you rinse it in a strainer or just in a bucket? Rinsing in a bucket usually does not work affectively.

How milky is milky? If it is slightly cloudy, that is normal and it usually takes 72 hours before CC settles. If it is truly MILKY, you have to empty the tank and rerinse the CC.

Well, now it is more cloudy than milky.

When I first washed the CC, I did just rinse it in a bucket. After I realized it wasnt rinsed enough I re-rinsed it by swishing it around the tank and a separate bucket inside a fishnet. I then ran a scoop-ful at a time under the faucet using the fishnet as a strainer.

I really hope that the tank doesnt cloud up for 72 hours every time I change the water or vacuum the gravel.

Just let it settle, it should clear up in a few days. The dust will not hurt the tank once it's setteled down.

I never recommend rinsing sand or any substrate going into a marine tank. The "silt" is very beneficial for the critters and bacteria.

there is no reason for you to empty the tank and rinse the CC again...leave it alone and let it settle out. Even if you have it stocked it will be fine.
