What else is in the tank with the feather Dusters? Is it possible that they are being harassed by tankmates, if not during the day possibly at night? Usually they will suck themselves into the tube if they sense danger but not always.

Some times they just die, I've lost a few. Have one right now that is doing strong. It's hard to say what could cause it, perhaps changing water conditions. They can be sensitive and can stress easily.

It will do that because of stress. It should grow back in about 2 weeks. Keep an eye on it. If it comes out of the tube, then it's not going to make it.

I have 9 in my tank (55gal), and have lost only two. I hope that means I'm good, not just lucky! Anyway, I use microvert 2 - 3 times a week, and they do fine. I lost my second because I moved the rock my carpet anemone was attached to during maintenance, and it grabbed the worms' head. oops

I also use microvert with mine and it seems to do better with that than with dt' phytoplankton (I was using that before). I also had a seahare in the tank (I dont recommend those) and that killed one of my dusters.
