Hi

My mum is having trouble with her fish they keep dieing! Its only just started since we put a pussy coral into the tank. We got this froma shop that we never realy go to we got the coral on friday and my mum HAD 10 fish in her tank these are the ones she has lost so far.
1 mimic tang
1 purple fire ball
1 royal gramma
2 black and white clowns
2 damsels

And she only has
2 Emperor cardanals(was a breeding pair but now one has passed away!)
1 lepard wrasse

we have tested the water and the tests have come out good as usual.

My mum phoned the shop last night and asked if they had treated the coral tanks with anything and this is the reaply she got.
NO dont think so, dont know, yes i think we did.

ALL the corals are fine its just the fish that are dieing

Can anyone help?

How long has the tank been set up? How big is the tank? Has she tested the water?

I did not find much info on that name, but it looks like it's also called a finger leather. I seem to remember that in some cases leather corals and sluff off it's outer layer when stressed and this can be Poisonous. Does it look like the coral is shedding?

The nemo died...?

But your ammonia was zero when you checked it...

Sudden spike...?

Its not leather finger.

It's not? When I did a check both came up as common names. Oh well, learn something new every day.

That's the problem with common names. Type in pussy coral and you also get leather coral. Then you look and find several different kinds of leather corals. Looking around it seem sto be a type of Sinularia. I'm guessing it looks like a pussy willow, hence the name pussy coral. Would it look something like this? http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=16&cat=1926&articleid=2297

The good thing is you found the problem. Have you done a water change to help drop the ammonia yet?

Just test your water, if the ammonia is still over 1.0 then do another water change. It shouldn't take long to get the levels down.
