I would never recomend a scooter for a tank under 100gals and less then 100 pounds or live rock. And a tank that is between 6 months and a year old. Fish like these slowly starve to death, even if they take food that you provide. Most only last a few months depending on how well they were fead before captivity. I wish you luck with it.

The tank is fairly new. 25 pounds of L.R. for now with lots of coraline that grew on it, along with lil' purple "cabage" like balls. I'm waiting for a shipment of new LR in a week. I will then add 15 pounds more, and the next week ( if water parms are ok ) another 15 pounds which will complete the L.R. in my tank.

As far as knowing if it's a dragnet or whatever, it was sold to me as a blenny scooter and I fed him already with brine shrimps and color bits. No problem that I can see for he is quite alert and hungry. The substrate is not sand but rather large pieces of crushed coral. He doesn't seem to be ill at ease in it and this morning, he is roaming around the tank.

So far so good.

sham speaks the truth, i would say 6 months atleast before trying dragnets, and especially make sure you dont have any wrasse' or anything else that will murder pods before a scooter can get to them.

Dragonets can be trained to feed other foods but it can take alot of effort. Some will eat live brine in a tank or you could try target feeding with some airline and a little mysis shrimp. keep in mind this isnt a common occurance, they seem to really enjoy their pods

Well established doesn't just mean cycled. The fish normally sold as Scooter blennies or gobies are actually dragonets not either of the others and demand some of the same care as mandarins. They eat pretty much only copepods and a fairly new just cycled tank won't have as much in the way of copepods. Plus without a sump/refugium they could potentially wipe out even a good copepod population unless you keep them in a big tank. Seriously I've spent most of today researching just gobies, blennies, and dragonets. A 55g is enough for a scooter "blenny" provided it's been cycled for at least several months and has a good amount of liverock and some sand.

I hope you have a well established tank. How long has your tank been up, and how big is it?
