Lionfish are a saltwater species of fish... Kept at the correct salinity and conditions many species are quite hardy. Because Lionfish don't require anything spectacular in terms of water conditions or care, they're a pretty good beginner fish if the owner is wary of their venomous fins and doesn't care that they can't keep a good range of other good beginner fish because the lionfish would consume them.

Relatively big tank, heavy filtration becasue it is a messy eater, no small fish or shrimp and such together...and dun over feed, feed 2 - 3 times a week is enough

Very nice fish, some like the volitan get rather large, and need a big tank, over 100gals. There are soem smaller ones as well. I suggest building your tank around this fish. Small fish will be a meal. Freeze dried krill is good food for them. Stay away from gold fish and other freshwater feeders.

Ohhh yes they love their krill!!! Silversides too.

It's really quite funny to watch them try to eat a piece that's bigger than their mouth. They're quite stubborn, and wont spit it out for quite some time.

Other than that, I just say make sure you've got GREAT filtration because they are messy, I hate having to clean that tank at work. Often enough I'll put a HOT Magnum on it because it's just a wreck.

Oh, and watch the spines, and know the care in case you get nailed by one. Gotta love venomous fish.
