I got my live rock 2 weeks ago now and I thought when I got it that I have an unexpected hitchiker. Couple of days ago I realized I really did. He opened up his shell about 0.25 inch.

I am curious what I should be "feeding" this little guy. Right now in the tank (29 gallon) it's just 21 pounds of live rock, him, and a castaway snail. I couldn't imagine that anyone could identify him. He's obviously been on the live rock for awhile because he blends into the rock perfectly. Thanks everyone!

I know this I think it's a clam (I would call it an oyster if I went to a resturant but I looked around and they seem to be called calms?)

It's a common clam or oyster. I have several of them in my tank. They are mainly filter feeders and will get what they need from the water. Soem survive, and some don't.

it may die because it is a filter feeder. they filter the water and get there food from the water. Your filter will most likely get all the little organisms the clam would feed on out of the water.

Right now I'm just using a HOB filter, nothing special by any means. I am mainly using it for water movement until I get my flow working well. Should I take out the medium from the filter so it's not consuming the organisms?

I would say leave the filters in. They provide more surface area for bacteria.
