That would be way too much. I'd stay away from most Basslets, because size for size they can be some of the most aggressive fish out there. Thats something you DONT want in a 30 gallon tank. Out of those fish, I'd go with the Royal Gramma. The Helfrich's Firefish is very nice also, but I've never seen them sell for less than around $130, so I really doubt you want one of those.

Generally, the Fire Shrimp does not really effect your bio load much if at all, so don't worry to much about adding that with whatever fish you choose. I would not get more than 3 fish though.

A pair of purcula clows are a great fish to start with. As for a starfish, you will have to watch what you get, many are not reef safe. Sepernt stars would be your best choice.

Sandsifters are ok in reef tanks too. As for livestock, I like the idea of a couple of clowns as well. They have lots of personality. You could also keep some shrimp, snails, crabs, and some other inverts.

That should be fine, those are mainly small fish. The damsel could be a problem though. They can be a bit aggressive. As for shrimp, if you want more then one, avoide the coral banded shrimp. Go with a few peppermint shrimp, and perhaps a cleaner shrimp. A fire shrimp looks very nice as well, but I have never had one, so I can't say for sure how well they do.

Seeing you have a smaller tank, your limited to smaller fish, here are a few nice colorful fish.

This gives you a place to start, these are all small fish, about 3" long, rather colorful, and mainly peacfull.

I would replace the damsel with another clownfish, they are happy in pairs, at least perculas are.

You really need to make your choice yourself, it is your tank. We can give you suggestions. Mine is a pair of percula clowns, and a royal gramma.

I'd go with a pair of Clowns and a Royal Gramma as well. Then you can add whatever inverts you choose.

I'm not sure if you have this link yet, but I thought I'd send it your way so you could take a look at some of the different saltwater fish.. On each of the profiles it will give you the basic rundown on the fish (tank size, aggression levels, ideal water conditions, etc.) and it might help you find things that you'd like for your tank.. It's certainly not everything that's available out there, but at least it will give you a place to see alot of pictures all in one place..

I strongly suggest that once you find a fish that you like, double check that information by doing a websearch to corroborate the information.. It's always best to find out as much as you can about something before you add it to your tank.. Sometimes one site will tell you one thing, and others will disaggree..

Good Luck with it..

I would personally add a pair of clown (percula or occelaris) and either a bangaii cardinal or a black cap basslet. Good luck with the new setup and let us know if you need some help along the way, but make it your own tank and do what you want with it.

I also vote for the clowns. As for tankmates I like the firefish, either red or purple. You could also keep a psuedochromis. They have really bright colors and great personalities. They can be aggressive however, so you might do a little more research. They are fine in big tanks, but Mikey pointed out in another thread that when they are in too small a space they can go after other fish.

Mix it up a little! Everyone has clowns, get something else (if you so choose).

How about:

1 Flame Hawkfish
1 6-Line Wrasse
1 Eibli Dwarf Angel

Talk about something different. You'd have one free swimmer (angel), one explorer (wrasse), and one percher (hawkfish). Could be kinda cool.

As for Hawkfish, I really like the Long Nose Hawkfish. Very neat animals.

Hawkfish eat ornamental shrimp, and flop on corals. The angel might nibble polyps. Plus that list puts this newbie overstocked. Sheesh, folks, stop that.
