Hi all, I was thinking about a tank I might want to set up in the future. A marine tank like maybe 29 gallons. Of course im going to master fw first just wondering how much work/ money this would take. so a 29 gallon tank, what would I need to set this up? (reef or not, whichever would be easier for a begginer)

just curious
any advice is welcomed!

Fish only is the easiest. Tank, powerhead, heater, lights, substrate, decorations, salt, water, and fish. You will also need a hydromoter, and a test kit for SW. As for cost, not much more the FW. As for how hard to keep, you just need to water your water paramiters and premix your water for water changes.

once you start out you could get some damsils while the tank is going through its process, after its all cycled which takes a while you could probally get some clownfish, lionfish are cool, triggers, yellow and blue tangs are very colorful. Good Luck

Tangs, Triggers, and a number of Lionfish species will outgrow the 29 gallon tank... Other fish you might consider are Firefish, Cardinalfish, and Neon Gobies.

Lionfish(Most of them), Tangs, and Triggers will all be far too large for a 29 gallon. A pair of Clownfish would work nicely though.

As far as cost goes to get everything you want:

1 ARM
1 Leg

if you get a pair of clowns, you could get a few sea anemones (sp)? those are always nice and constantly doing different things.

No offense, but are you keeping any SW tanks at this time? You seem to be throwing out some pretty poor suggestions, especially for someone intrested in starting a small fish only tank.

They have specific needs and requirements that cannot usually be met by a new tank or a beginner. They also are not necessary for Clowns to be happy and healthy.

I think what I might do is go with a pair of clowns or go up to a 55 gallon. Is there a community style sw tank I could do with a 55 gallon?

You could defentinally create a small community of peaceful fish in a 55 gallon tank. Thats what I've tried to do with my 75.

Please try to throw out ideas that would work for the size of tank, and the experience level of the person wanting ideas.
