Ok i am cycling my first sw tank. It is a 55g with 10 lbs of Live rock. I dont know exactly how to cycle the tank though. All i really know is i need to get the ammonias to nitrites and then to nitrates. I now have a kinda low ammonia of about .25-.5. The nitrites are about 5.0 and the nitrates are about 20. I dont know why the nitritess arent going away. If anyone can help me in any way i would very much appreciate it.

The nitrites can take a while to go down. They wont drop to zero until you ammonia hits zero first. How long has your tank been cycling? Also, the more live rock you have, the faster it will cycle.

Ok well thank you for your inpu. I am just anxious to get this tank started and i dont want to kill the live rock or anything like that. It has only been cycleing for a week and i think i might get more live rock soon.

It will take a few weeks to finish. Just test the water every few days. Each time you add more live rock you will get a mini cycle, but that should only take a day or so.
