A guy at my work has started a new SW tank so hes always asking me questions. anyhow he says his ph is starting to raise 8.6-8.8 and doesnt know why and i dont know why the ph would raise. little help please.

Carbonates or bicarbonates might be in cause. Check what kind of rocks he has in there (limestone?). Have him test is KH and GH in tank AND tap water. What salt brand does he uses? Substrate? Something is leaching OH- in the system.

If possible, check with another test kit. And clean the test tube really good between tests.
