Hey folks, been lurking and not posting for quite a while, hope everyone's fine.

Anyway, I had a yellow tang, a pair of clowns, and a royal gramma, along with about 8-10 hermits, a serpent star, some snail (hitchhikers and bought), a emerald crab, cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp.

About three months ago, I lost the royal gramma and the smaller of the two clowns (the clowns were bought together when both were very small) within four days of each other. No remains were found the next day (the shrimp, hemrits, etc.) and I have no idea why I lost them. My kids have been badgering me to replace them but I wanted to wait to see if anything would happen to the two remaining fish, and possibly get a clue as to why I lost them. I did the usual water parameter checks, etc., and found nothing. Since then, nothing, they seem to be doing great, but so were the other two before their untimely demise.

Now, I want to get another clown, and another royal gramma, and maybe one other fish (haven't decided what yet) to add to the existing clown and tang. Anyone see any problems with this? Advice? I know normally (and originally I did) I would add the tang last, but too late for that now. I can move the rock work a little to shake him up enough to not be so aggresive and territorial with the new additions - will that be enough?

Thanks for all your help!

What is your tank size? I woudl say you should have at least a 75gal or larger tank for the fish you want. Mostly the tang. The other fish stay small. If you wish to add a new clown, make sure it's smaller then the one you have.

I agree with Dan on giving most if not all tangs at least a 75 gallon main display tank when possible, it's just better that way. Seems like you've got that concern covered though.

Now, a couple more questions. Could you tell us a little more about your set up? Do you have a sump tank too? Is this a FO, FOWLR or reef set up? How are you providing current in the tank? Protein skimmer?

I'd like to suggest more additions to your tank, but not until I'm more familiar with it. I think the most important factors here are going to be good gas exchange at the surface, since saltwater cant hold as much oxygen as freshwater can, and how efficient your filtration is. That will let us know what type of bio load your tank can take.

Then depending on the set up, I have a couple fish ideas if you're interested.

Flame angels are fine as well. I want a few for my kids to choose from. Initially, I want to know that putting a small clown and a small royal gramma back in will be okay -- that the tang will leave them alone. But I may want to have a few other options for them to look at as well. I'm pretty sure that another clown is going to be begged for, and I can really only add one additional fish that stays relatively small for my tank size. A suggested order for adding them would be appreciated as well. Thanks.
