Okay, I really bet that we've had this poll before, but I think it'd be nice to do it again.

What brand of salt do you use?

When you reply, please state the brand and critters in it, and reasons for choosing it.

I use Aquamedic salt...and you know what my tank has in it (SPS dominated). I was using Kent, but switched since Kent is now made in the same plant as Instant Ocean....think they make two different salts in the same plant?

Aquamedic is a little more expensive, but IMO its worth it. Calcium levels are excellent and DKH is also excellent.

Tropic Marin is another good salt, but with a really high price tag it isnt an option for me....availability is also scarce around here with only one store stocking it and it being $79 a bucket.

I would stay away from the Oceanic, as alot of people that have been using it have experienced nasty algae outbreaks.

Red Sea, no problems. 'Course, that's the only one I've ever tried...I've heard good things about Tropic Marin, maybe I'll save my pennies and get some of that.

Instant Ocean is what I have at home, but the store I buy my saltwater from uses Kent.. If I ever end up needing to actually buy another bucket, it will be Kent salt next go round..

I used Instant Ocean, but my LFS sells tropic marine which works great. My friend had a bad experience with Oceanic.

Currently using Oceanic. But have and still do on occasion use Instant Ocean and also Reef Crystals. The reason I am currently using Oceanic though, is that it is the cheapest pricewise. And I have not had any problems with algae outbreaks from the change. Ever since Instant Ocean price increased, all the lfs have/are changing over to Oceanic mostly. Well the price did not go up, they just made their container and amounts smaller (like no one would notice, lol).

And, as for my reef, I have noticed much better coral growth with the Oceanic over the Reef Crystals and Instant Ocean. But none of mine are SPS.

Edit; I have used all of those on your list, except for the Aquamedic. And I cannot say I have really had any problems with any of them.
