I would recomend agenst seahorses if you have never kept a SW tank. They are very hard to keep alive. Feeding them is very hard. And if they are in a pair, and one dies, the other will morn for the rest of it's life. Yes, they look cool, but I don't belive they will ever be happy in a tank. If your really set on doing it, then I suggest you real every thing you can find first.

I take care of seahorses at work too, so I know where you're coming from. But I must say---it's so much easier there, because typically you're on one big system, so you dont have to maintain individual water params. The water will be relatively stable nearly all the time. And as you probably know, in smaller tanks such as those that the seahorses require, it's a little harder to maintain the water chemistry.

At work, our ponies take to live brine all the time, and frozen mysid occasionally. They will need a heater to keep their water temperature up, but stable. Stability is key as opposed to accuracy in most conditions, IMO. I think they'd do best in a tank around 15 gallons with a nice gentle rockscape. They need things to "latch" onto with their tails, maybe a couple small pieces of tonga rock would do them nicely, with a small sand bed, around 2.5" or so.

Only buy tank raised ponies if you decide to go with them.

I didn't mean to suggest that you didn't know how to care for a tank, if it sounded that way, I'm sorry. I prefer to error on the side of safty. So many people want seahorses, but have no idea how to care for them. If you have a good system, and know your stuff, then you shoudl be able to do it. But I still suggest reading all you can. Go to google and do a search. I also think there is a site at www.seahorse.com, but I might be wrong.
