My yellow Tang got a cloudy eye on it's right eye...but the left stay clear and healthy. I only got him for about a week and I don't think it had been staying at my lfs for long as well...perhaps within a week

Anyone know what could be happening to him?

ph - 8.3
ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 5ppm
specific gravity - 1.025

It may have bumped it's eye on a rock or something. Is there any other sign injury?

Water conditions can effect the eye like this as well. High ammonia coudl do it. Have you tested your water?

Did you change anything in the tank, such as adding a lot of live rock? Anything that might have caused a new cycle? If it's not the case, then I will still lead towards an injury.

I have read from books that this "cloudy eye" is a bacteria infection in the fish. It also said the easiest way to treat it is to blend an antibiotic called tetracycline into frozen food. Around 100-250mg should be mixed in 2 ounces of food.
It also says that this infection could be caused by poor water quality. I'm not saying yours is bad, but it might be a good idea to double up on water changes. I hope this helps.

I've used tetracycline before to treat a malawi chichlid before that had popeye. But that was in the water not soaked in food so i dont know how well that would work. Tetracycline elso kills beneficial bacteria so im not sure how that would effect a marine tank if it got into the water. If i remember correctly it took around two weeks to go down and that was with the meds in the water. So im not sure if tetracycline is such a good idea..

I would be careful adding any antibiotic to a reef tank. The reason live rock is so valuable is becuase of the bacteria that live on it. After all the money I spent on that stuff I won't add anything that might damage it. If you have a hospital tank that's the way to go. If not then do what you need to, just be careful.

Agreed with Raider Fish. If you have a reef tank, or a fish and invertabrate tank with any live rock, its best not to add any chemicals or medications. These additives will kill live rock and inverts. That is why it is so imparitive to have a quarantine/hospital tank.

thanks for all the advice....now the cloudy has disappeared..maybe dthurs was right....just an injury.

but I have another qz for all you fish guru's... sometimes it just like to swim around the tank in circle continuously. With the same swimming patter as well...like swim up then down at the same spots...and round and round the tank. What's an explaination to this behaviour?
