What is the worst way you have been told or heard of to cycle a tank. Here are some of the ones that I have heard of since being in the aquarium industry

1/Put a couple of mollies into your tank and leave for 6 weeks.
2/Put a couple of damsels in to your tank
3/set up your tank and let it run for 8 weeks then put some live rock in it
4/ you dont need to cycle your tank, you can put fish in straight away
5/Put ammonia into your tank
6/You dont need live rock just an undergravel filter and let it sit for 10 weeks.

There are dozens of ways to cycle a tank. many LFS want the sale, so say, use these fish. Many times they survive, but it's hard on them. If they die it's a few weeks later and they have another sale. I seem to remeber reading some one asking if they could pee in the tank. That person should box up the tank and take it back.

Most people prefer using uncured live rock or dropping in a cocktail shrimp.

Dan ,Has my 3yr old been asking you questions?

Although during my cycle I found a couple of mini Oreo cookies in the sand!I don't think they helped it cycle any faster!

I used Bio-Spira for SW tanks and it worked great. It instantly cycled my tank and I never had ammonia, nitrites or nitrates.
