well i seem to have a problem i have a cinnamon clown and just added a ocellarris clown fish in my 55 gallon tank. although from the black the ocellarris has on his fins he looks like a true percula to me. i was told that since the ocellarris has a different body shape than the cinnamon clown that they would be alright in the same tank. well soon after putting my ocellarris clown in the tank the cinnamon clown started to nip at it. i seperated them for now but i am wondering if there even compatible. im aware that the cinnamon clown is a more agressive clown so im wondering if his behavior was possibly for terretorial reasons? i also have a coral beauty angel, yellow tail damsel and a three stripe black and white damsel.

Clowns generally do not get along with other clowns.

They are not compitable.

Clowns of different species should not be kept in the same tank, generally.

There are success stories, but its generally a no no.

No more than one pair of the same clowns should really be kept in a tank under 300 gallons.

Yes, most all success stories are of those of tank sizes exceeding 150 gals. Especially if you have none, or only one anemone. As they will extremely battle over the anemone or open territory if not anemone.

well thanks for the advive...the owner of the fish store i got both clowns from swears they can co exist in my tank because of there different body shape. he says hes been fish keeping for well over 40 years and has been in the fish selling buissness for 17 years and recomended that redecorating the decorations in the tank would make cinnamon clown think his in new territory and by doing so it would resolve this problem. i housed the cinnamon clown in a different tank for the last five days mean while i let the ocellarris clown settle in his new tank. well i redecorated the tank and they seem to be co excisting for the moment and well ima keep a close eye on them but im skeptical that this will keep up for much longer so i think ima be giving away one of the clowns to a friend.

yea...lots of experience...there had been somone claimed that they have 30 yrs of experience with cichlids and asked a qz here.."what is the best temp. for Oscar?". Never make conclusion based on one person's info....all the books I read claim that "clowns do not live together unless your tank is huge". I personally tested that out myself and it proved itself to be right....
