I bought a red general star from saltwaterfish.com(great place for fish, btw!) and it said to feed it often. My question is: How do you feed a starfish and what do they like to eat? I have a knobby star in my other tank, but i don't have to feed him, he eats algae.

If it's the one I'm thinkig it is, this is what I found.

If there is insufficient algae growth in the aquarium, the diet should be supplemented with flaked foods, and small pieces of fish or mussel.

also your knobby star is most likely a choc. chip starfish or an african star, and would prefer a meaty diet....

My choc. chip starfish eats krill, and I've even seen it eat aptasia. It's doing a good job keeping my FOWLR under control.

Ok, that's different then teh red starfish. So here is what the profile says for the red knobby starfish.

In the aquarium, the diet can consist of chopped clams, shrimp, fish, and squid fed once a week.
