I'm using live rock to aquascape my 90 gallon. Is it necessary to epoxy the pieces of the rock to one another? Or can I just fit them together, provided the fit is stable?

If you can get them to fit nicly, then no problem. Small rocks can be knocked down easily by turbo snails, and some fish. I just stack mine without glue.

In my 72 they're stacked without glue.

Sometimes people go crazy and do PVC frames and all this good stuff. Check out Calfo's book of Coral Propagation if you want info on those techniques.

Otherwise, like Dan said, as long as they fit or interlock basically you should be okay. With super aggressive fish and tricky guys like eels I might be a little concerned though.

There's going to be a triggerfish and a three-spot damsel in there, but no snails, except as snacks for the trigger.

(In other words, some quasi-aggressive fish, but I don't think they're rock-topplers.)

I wouldn't be too worried about neither the trigger nor the damsel--like you said, quasi-aggressive, but not rock topplers.

Just stack 'em.

In my tank, I just have the live rock stacked. As long as it seems stable, then I don't think you'll have to worry about fish knocking any of the rock over.
