Hello everyone, i am planning on setting up a salt water aquarium this summer. I would like it to be very successful, and therfore a will be needing your assistance. I have only a few questions for you, what kind of filtration will i need for a 20 gal. salt water tank? How often to do water changes? How much percent of the water will i need to take out? What kind of lighting and how many whats to the gallon? And any other info. i will be needing would be greatly appreciated.

Live rock will provide your biological filteration, 10 to 30 pounds is a good amount. You can add a HOB filter to help scrub the water a bit. A skimmer is also a good idea. Other then that, no other filters are needed.

As fot the lighting, that will depend on the kind of tank you want. A fish only tank will need very basic lighting. A reef tank will need much more. What do you have planned.

Water changes, 5% to 15% is a good amount. 2 or 3 times a month.

Because your not doing any corals, any marine lighting will be fine. More light will look better, make colors pop more, and help coraline algea grow better.
