no cycle? | |
niggit Fish Addict Posts: 631 Kudos: 282 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Jan-2003 | hello. i have a 10G tank that i've had set up for about 3 weeks (2 weeks since i added 10lbs of live rock)... i've yet to see a significant rise in ammonia and/or nitrite which would suggest that the tank has begun it's cycle... so, what's going on? is it possible that the tank cycled quickly in between water tests (i've only been checking about once a week), or is it that there is not significant amounts of ammonia being produced because there's nothing but the rock in there? anyhow, the people at my LFS suggested that i now add some hermit crabs and snails. i think they said 2 snails and 1 hermit per gallon... that seems like a lot. what do you suggest? does it matter what kind of hermit crabs I get, as long as they stay small? i was looking at some 'scarlet hermits' and some 'blue leg hermits.' are these okay? anything to avoid? thanks so much in advance for all the wonderful advice (and patience!) |
