Dafridge Enthusiast Posts: 154 Kudos: 113 Votes: 17 Registered: 16-Jul-2003	IMO sand is better. i have used sand and crushed coral but the sand looks better. it will also help as a biological filter. crushed coral dosent have all of these abilities and looks nowhere as nice.. just my honest opinion.

terranova Fish Master Posts: 1984 Kudos: 1889 Votes: 229 Registered: 09-Jul-2003	I like deep sand beds, strictly from aragonite sand. This helps to buffer the pH, where as a silica based sand wont. DSB's are a natural way of helping to reduce nitrates. Crushed coral is usually better for fish only displays, or for tanks with a heavy bioload. Unlike sand, it needs to be gravel vac'd. I guess your decision would be based on the purpose of the tank you're setting up. HTH -Formerly known as the Ferretfish
