sure corys would be happier in larger numbers, but they also need room to swim. I would adgree that 6 corys might work in a 10 gal, but that wouldn't leave much room for other fish with out becoming overstocked. I have kept 2 corys in a ten gal tank with 2 female swordtails, both cories were very active. One died and the other just laid around i got 2 more and the 1st was very active again.
just my view 6 is to many, try 3 if the seem lonely get a biger tank and then a few more. Remember a 10 gal tank is very small
hope this helps

Finally I think I will go with the magic number 6. As some people suggested:

Tank 1:

6 coreies
3 platies

Tank 2:

6 Zebra Danios
3 platies

Thanks a lot guys that was so helpful,

Someone

Well, I would say I am of both groups, Corys and danios will do just fine in a group of 4, but will do BETTER in a group of 6! ]

I don't see the problem here..the group 1 and 2 may have different options but they both are right.
I personally would have a go with a group of 6,just like Sirbooks mentioned.
You can go both ways,a group of 3-4 or a group of 6,it's up to what you want.

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

Corys and Danios both should be kept in groups of 6. This will increase activity and stop aggression in the danios.
My idea is:
6 danios
3 platies

6 corys
3 platies

these tank are ideal, just make sure you have a good filteration and change 10-30 percent water every week.

Good luck!

Thank you so much guys but I think i am more confused now than when i started.

I am so sorry but I see 2 groups:

1. Group who thinks it is better to have Cories and Danios in group of 6.
2. Other group thinks it is better to have Cories and Danios in group of 4.

What should I do?

Thanks,
Someone

I would have:
1st tank
3 platies
6 danios

2nd tank
3 platies
6 corys

These tank wouold not be overstocked. If you have a good maintenance routine,(30 water change every week) then all should be fine. I would suggest getting a qurantine tank, or being very careful buying fish. I have a 10 gallon wiht 4 guppies, 2 platies, 2 platy fry, 2 bristle nsoe. I had a big disease outbreak through 2 fish. It is a problem, and you may loose lots of fish. I now have a qurantine tank and everything is fine.

Good luck!

you know, 6 cories might be ideal, but 3-4 is perfectly fine really.

And danios will happily gad about in a group of 3-4.

"2 long fin zebra danios
2 zebra danios
2 golden Zebra Danios"

For the fellow who said they are not the same species: YES they are the same species.
Zebra Danio is a Zebra Danio whether it has long fins, short fins, or is albino. Leopard Danios are also the same species, as is the albino variety of them.
Yes they will all school nicely together.
I think you could put the 6 platys together and the danios and corys in the other tank.
You should defintely have 6 corys. Platys eat off the bottom lots, so you wont have to worry about food leftovers much.

sure the tank would be a bit overstocked, you'd be pushing your bioload a bit but it's far better to keep an adequate school. With good filtration and maintenance, 6 corys and a few platies would be fine. Remember corys are bottom dwellers, IME platies never really stray far from the mid/top level of the tank which would give the 6 corys the whole bottom. It's really not a space issue, as corys don't mind being crowded, but a bioload issue.

What type of spotted cory are we talking about here? It's hard to comment on the bio load without knowing the eventual size.

Hi,

I have two ten gallons tanks. I know they are small but I want to know what I should do.

First tank has:
1 Spotted Cory
3 wagtail Platy (All females)
3 Zebra Danio

Second tank:
1 Spotted Cory
3 wagtail Platy (All females)

Am I overstocked? By the way I do weekly 20% water changes with gravel vacuuming and have Bio wheel filters.

Should I move the platys in on tank and get 3 more zebra Danios in the other? So I have a platy tank in one and Zebra Danios in the other one.

I need feed back.

Thanks,
Someone

I disagree. Though fish can't count, they can become lonely. Also, cories greatly prefer the company of their own kind to any other fish. Six cories is a good number for a shoal, because any less than that will be far less happy. Three cories is not enough, and they would become stressed if kept in so small a group. Also, six cories will fit in a ten gallon. It might be a stretch, but it can be done. They don't produce much waste either, which is another plus.

WOOOOOOA
6 corys in a 10 gal tanks?????????
I don't think a 10 gal is big enough for 6 corys
I have 10 or so in my 75 gal tank they like to swim around and dart, at most I would add 3, fish can't count, they just look for others to "play" with, 3 should be good

I would suggest 3 corys, and 3-4 plays, maybe different color plattys

It does help if its the same species but i think fish school but the color so if the long fins have the same color i think theyll school. I've have black skirts and long fined black skirts school together but never got white skirt to do the same. Your golden danio may or may not school with them?

could this work as a school?
2 long fin zebra danios
2 zebra danios
2 golden Zebra Danios

or do they have to be all the same exact school?

I agree in that danios and cories are best kept in groups of at least six. They are happiest that way, and are far less stressed. I would add five more of the same kind of cory, and three more of the same danio, since having just one species of each (in a school of fish) is best.

Oh, and welcome to the site!

Corydoras need to be in schools, so it's better to have 6 in 1 tank. :88):88):88)
