What interesting fish could i keep in a 5g Tank? I was thinking of a betta, but i've kept them before and wanted something different. Any ideas?

Dwarf puffers. Depending on one's experience, they can be a bit of a hassle to care for, as they dont fare well in non cycled tanks and are heavy waste producers themselves. This is coupled with the fact that they have special dietary needs. They should be no problem for you if you've been in the fishkeeping hobby for a decent amount of time, or even if you haven't. I think there's a website on them, and I'm sure someone here can give you a link.

Now that I think about it, 5 gals are remarkably hard to stock.

Sure is.

For the tank, i was thinking a couple of bottom feeders and a betta or something. Is that a good idea or a no no?

There aren't any bottom feeders that i can think of that will do well in a 5 gallon tank. I would personally do a betta and some shrimp or snails or a pair of killifish. Killifish are very colourful and will actually breed in a tank that small.
