Good idea/bad idea??? ![]() |

They're nice in situations when you don't want the current to drag food into a filter output and scatter it all over the tank. For example, maybe you're feeding a shy school of hatchetfish who need some plumping up. That, or you just don't want extra food going to waste in the nooks and crannies of your tank. Remember though, the rings only work for a short period of time after each feeding. Unless you have fish that will eat everything on the surface very quickly, food will sink. The rings help control the area it sinks into, but food still sinks nonetheless. People like me don't really care where their fish food ends up. I actually dump my flake food right in the filter output to prevent the tetras from stealing it all. Most of my fish are willing to chase food into hard-to-reach places, and graze all areas of the tank. Little goes to waste, and frequent water changes will help to take care of that. |

Yes it stops the food spreading around thus causing too many fish in one area not feeding the less pushy (shy) fish meaning it/they could easly go with out food. Try it years ago and tossed it out very quickly.
