hi im looking to upgrade my fish tank and am looking to bid on a 200litre tank on ebay. the glass is supported 6mm glass and the dimensions are L48" by W14" H18" will the glass be strong enough as i have seen alot of the same size tank with thicker glass. the offerer owns a glass factory and makes and tests all his own products and offers a one year guarantee on tank hood and stand. the thing is this would be my first big tank and dont know what the hell im looking for!!

Hi,
Here is a site you might want to look at:

http://www.garf.org/tank/buildtank.asp

Just select the "glass" option and plug in your numbers.

And, another site specifically what you are asking about:

http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/diytanksrefugiums/ss/diycustomtank.htm

its a little thin but i suppose it would work. i would opt for the thicker one if you could find it at a comparable price.

I had a 50g made out of 6mm glass (only 18 inches high). My giant gourami bumped the front glass and cracked it all the way. I've ordered a 125g in 15mm now for him.
So its better to go for the thicker one.

cheers guys for the quick response- and cheers frank for the links, they have all the information needed. so it looks like 6mm is the bair minimum for the size tank and i heed the advice not to go for the bair minimum incase of an accident. i put in an offer on ebay and it was the winning bid. so i got the six mm tank. however the guy owns a glazier company so i am going to ask about the possibility of a bit thicker glass as he sells a few tanks... i will let you know what happens.

im pretty excited to be getting a big tank tho!!!
