I dont know of any link but i used to grow algae. All i did was set up a small container outside in the sun. I put aquarium water in there plus some rocks. In about a week i had alot of algae to feed my fish. It is very easy.

I also use the same method as clownloachfan. It's cheap & effective.

Hey... looks like we have another possible AGA member

I think the thread you are referring to is the Algae Growers Anonymous (AGA) meeting

Welcome to the club

I agree with GT Welcome to the AGA. You will find growing algae is the easiest thing you have done when it comes to Aquariums.

Can I use any type of rock? Since the weather is starting to cool down will growing algae be as effective?

Depending on how cool it's getting, and more importantly how strong and long the sunlight lasts you may see a slowdown in algae growth.

I'd suggest using smoother rocks. If you're putting them in for the fish to nibble the algae off of you wouldnt want to use something with sharp edges which might injure their mouths. Of course you'll want to check that the rocks wont alter your PH as well.

Do you have a spare tank and a light. Just put the rocks in the water and leave the light on for almost all day(when you wake up to when you go to bed) or 24 hours. This will really grow some algae.

Hi
Since it shifting into winter, you might want to keep
the aquarium, or glass container, for the algae in a South
facing window and expose it to the sunlight.

50 degrees and cooler is not condusive to fast algae
growth.
