Has anyone tried Fluval Green-X Phosphate Remover | |

Has anyone tried Fluval Green-X Phosphate Remover? How may bags should I use at one time? Will this remove the phosphates, or does it have something in it that kills the algae as well? |

While a diatom bloom can occur at any time in the life of an aquarium, they generally occur in newly set up tanks. In a new tank, the gravel which is mostly made up of quartz gravel, will have an excess of silica for the diatoms to feed on. Low light, little if any currents, and lack of maintenance (water changes and gravel vacuuming) in the tank encourage their growth. This is one of may sites dealing with the "Brown Algae" problem: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Freshwater-Aquarium-3216/Brown-Algae-3.htm#b Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

Lots of current as I have a power head. I do only have one 40 Watt florescent light which is a little on the low side but a new 4 foot light is costly. So I would like to try this phosphate remover first. |
