Loach Changed Color? | |
ZenJen78 Small Fry Posts: 1 Kudos: 1 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Jan-2013 | I have never had loaches before, so I don't know much about them. I just bought a black Kuhli loach yesterday. He was solid black, but sometime since this morning it has turned a pale orange. Is this normal, or might there be an issue with my tank causing the problem? |

At best, it is settled in a tank that it appreciates with the correct water chemistry values (pH, GH, KH, Nitrate, etc) lots of places to explore, and tankmates that don't need to be viewed as enemies. The oppposite of the above could also cause a shift in colors. If the tank is less than a month old, it is probably still cycling and the Ammonia nitrite, and nitrate readings could be all off the charts and the water toxic to the fish. Check your water chemistrys with a quality test kit, be sure the heater if functioning correctly and that it is set for the prefered temperature for your fish. Lastly, read up on the fish you just bought! Either from books, or go online and see what that species needs to survive and look its best..
