New 15gal Tank | |
CrimsonaX Hobbyist Posts: 130 Kudos: 57 Registered: 30-May-2007 | Finally after debating so long I have a larger tank in my possession. Few questions, out of the 3 fishtanks I have, which of these fish can be combined, or are best suited, to go in the larger tank? I have: A bristlenose catfish (female) A large mystery snail (about a golf ball size) 2 Bettas (One short finned and one double tailed) A half Beak (Think that it's name) 2 Ottos 1 Golden Ram (I think that's the one but I'm not too sure either) Most of these guys have been fine and dandy for over a year so no health concerns there =) After that's sorted, should I add any more of a particular kind of fish to stock numbers (over time, not at once) or just to enhance variety? And are any of them safe to be in while it cycles or just best to keep it a fishless cycle entirely? I'm not sure if snails are alright to go in a new tank at that time, he's just gotten rather large lately and I'd love him to be moved out of his small tank asap. Second question: The light is currently 24wts with a 100watt heater. I'm pretty sure that works out fine for a tropical tank with only low light plants but just confirming this. Third: Best decoration debates. I'm keeping to plants which I will build over time, I also have a natural gravel (going with a 3mm red so far). Is it possible to have 'too' much driftwood? I wanted mainly natural items so a nice set up of driftwood and some live plants around it. That's all for now |

Ottos tend to like it better in older more mature tanks, but like cooler faster moving waters. BN, I think should be the largest tank available, rams like larger tanks as well. What are the sizes of the other tanks? Not sure on the snails, never kept the large ones, just MTS. 24w light on a 15 is fine, yes, technically it is possible to have too much DW, but only in the sense that any wood takes away space for the fish. A lot of DW may also lower the ph of the water, which may not be what some fish like. ^_^ |

CrimsonaX Hobbyist Posts: 130 Kudos: 57 Registered: 30-May-2007 | The other sizes vary from a smaller 4gal (betta, 2 ottos) To a 5gal (Snail, Ram, Half Beak) Abd the 6 gal (Betta, BN) As you can see I am very eager to get them into much more comfortable acccomadation as soon as possible, moving the ones needing the most space first as I build on my tanks =) And he is a blue mystery snail, I think it's the biggest he'll get, well, im hoping as such. SO far I have a nice corner peice of DW, thinking of what plants I should use, something that isn't an Anubis but Ill research that as things go. Right now washing a nice load of gravel and soaking that DW good |

Not sure what a half beak is but I'm pretty sure he'd want to be in the larger tank too! Snail should be ok to stay in the small tank. ^_^ |

I've kept up the cleans and so far both parties seem to be functioning quite well. Althought the barrier is see through and my two bettas seem to bicker with one another non stop... If they don't calm down I can easily put something to block their views. Half beak is a small silver fish, skims the top of the water, and has a lower lip that stands out almost like a little horn. |
