Online Suppliers - The good, the bad, and the ugly | |
lysaer Hobbyist Posts: 117 Kudos: 57 Votes: 2 Registered: 07-Apr-2007 | So we're talking abut suppliers in the chat. And a suggestion has been made, so I'm taking charge! What online aquarium/fish suppliers have you used in the past that you would recommend for others? Why do you like them and why would you use them again? And as Adam says below, not a good idea to badmouth anybody in particular - I think (myself) it would be ok to say you don't use a particular supplier, but leave it at that. Listen! Do you smell that? |

The site itself acted funky when I tried to place an order, but that could have just been me. I thought their pricing was excellent on what I ordered, as it saved me $6. from ordering the same thing on, I believe it was Foster & Smith's site? Don't hold me to that. I ordered an API Master Test Kit for $15.99 & $7.45 shipping. It came in about a week. I will use that place again if I have too. |

So here is my list: Petsolution.com - Order mostly from them, very secure, never had any problems from them. I've order equipment, supplies and livestock. They will answer any questions you have about equipment even if you not buying from them. they will price match Bigalsonline.com - Order from them, very good, will price match. Have a members club get points for ordering to get free stuff. I find there selection limited but price are good. Aquariumplants.com - Very good for C02 equipment, best price I could find anywhere for the quality equipment. Only place that offers a 3 year warranty on CO2 Regulators. Good guys will help with any problem and equipment. Fish2U.com - Never again Floridadriftwood.com - Nice guy I know personally - never had a problem with his plants or his customer service. Corysrus.com - Never again Drsfostersmith.com - good site have order - very secure timely delivery - I find the prices to be a little high but never try to get them to price match. Would recommend. Arozona Aquatics - Can't say to much still waiting on livestock order for just over 3 weeks now. Ebay on-line store - what can you say it ebay. I only buy new items That is all I can think of for now but will go through Fish supply files and see if I missed anyone. You are legally responsible for your own posts but it has been shown in the past that morons who do not understand this can still sue me as the owner of the site. I am not willing to chance that. |

They carry a wide range, offer a loyalty program, and were usually quite fast in shipping. I think once I had to wait a week. Unfortuanatly that one time was when I was waiting on parasite meds so I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Here in oz there's only one good aquarium supplier. Equarium. Since we know the people there won't sell you something you don't need, and keep fish themselves, and that all their proceeds go to support a really cool fish site . ^_^ |

Just like to know, because the products and their pics have the FP insignia on the corner. I cant buy from Equarium because i only live in the US. Personally, ive never used any of the online suppliers, but i heard that you are paying the price for quality in Drs.Foster and Smith. ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | I've used aquatic plant depot for plant orders before. No minimum order, first order gets a first-time-user discount and the plants are probably one of the cheapest you can find online. My first order was spectacular, the second order was less than perfect - probably my fault for ordering when it was too cold out for the shipping I chose. About 3/4 of the plants survived being half-frozen. I also had problems with some plants being out of stock though they didn't note it as such on their site and didn't note it when I placed my order or give an explanation in the package I received. They did, however, call me and talk it over with me when I emailed them, were able to remove the plants from my order (they didn't know when they'd be in stock) and did not charge me. I've also used Big Al's for some supplies. The only problem I had was that some items would take longer to ship than others and I had to tell them several times to ship everything together. I think this was mostly because a couple items in-stock status kept getting pushed back a few days. I think I finally wound up getting two separate shipments for no extra charge because one or two items were late getting in. However, they were very friendly throughout the whole process, though the wait time on the phone was a bit long. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

One time something arrived broken...they offered store credit or to re-ship at their cost. I've ordered livestock online as well but shipping costs are outrageous IMO. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
