hi- this may seem stupid but i am just wandering where is the best place to position your power point- in the stand or on the wall?

i am having to run an extension lead to the tank but want to fix that semi permanently some where.
i suppose as long as there are no leaks then inside the stand is fine?

I mount all my controllers on the wall so I can take a quick look when I walk by, now the wife doesn't like it because she thinks it looks like a science lab.

It's best to have either a drip loop or have the actual outlets higher than the tank.
This keeps any water that might run down cords from dripping into the outlet. If this actually ever happens I'm not sure...but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Since you want to place it in the stand I'd suggest having the loop on the outside of the stand then run the extra cords and plugs into the stand so that any water that would drip drips outside the stand.

My tanks are sitting on stands. Since there are more power lines from the tank then your average outlet will supply I have a power strip/surge protector for each of them hanging on the back corner of them, mounted high enough to provide the drip loop and still easily accessable.

If you will be installing a new plug, I would recommend getting the kind called GFCI, ground fault circuit interuptor. These have the circuit breaker built into them and in the event of a surge in power, such as would happen if water shorted out a circuit, it's supposed to trip and cut off power to that appliance.

I have the power switches on the wall for the large tank and on the desk and behind the Betta tank. On the wall is the far safest less chance of any water spillage getting on the board. Also each outlet point has its own on/off switch this is extremly important when you have multiple outlets.

Here is the photo of the 5ft Power board.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info
