Mint805 Fingerling Posts: 17 Registered: 08-Aug-2007 | viciouschiapet LOVE THE NAME! OK, so its me and my tin foil barbs now Margine Nikki and Barb. (get it Big Love anyway...) I am trying to research them as much as possible. The bala sharks are great too. I wont be adding anything for a while. I really want to focus on my decor and my tin foils for now. I am getting outta work after my LFS closes today and tomorrow so probably no new updates till Thursday or Friday. Whats some good rocks to put in the tank? Should I be getting them at the LFS? Same with the plant LFS? Internet? Aquascaping place? |

FRANK Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002 | Hi Mint, I too deal with AZ Gardens. I have found it best to have some sort of idea what you want your tank to look like. Driftwood with some plants, a jungle with just a few fish, a South African tank, or Asian tank, or Rift tank. Once you have an idea of what type of fish you are going to have swimming around in it, then you can plan the hard-scape(rocks/driftwood/etc) and then the plants. Know your tank before you call them. Know the water chemistries (pH,GH,KH,etc) and know the type of light and the total amount of wattages of light you will be using. When you have that information pieced together, then go to their web site and read the part "For new customers." In it they will tell you their schedule and when they are the busiest and when the slower times are. The next step is to call them with your information handy, and talk with them. I've found them to be highly motivated, knowledgeable, and they want you to succeed. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

With the size tank you have there are a lot of options for you to choose from. So my biggest piece of advie to you is to slow down a little. If you really want to enjoy this tank you will need to take your time. Go to your LFS and just look around, then, very quietly, go into the back, behind the false wall and into the hidden shelter, WHER THEY KEEP THE BOOKS, waste some of your money on a couple books. Get 1 book that just talks about the basics and give a few examples of fish and decor. Then get a manual of fish book, you know, one that will list tons of fish and give you a few tidbits of info. I really like those because it's always good to have a quick ref and the pictures will give ideas to new fish, thoug this site does have some nice profiles, hence the name. When you read them come here and ask all of your new questions. I know it is tough to wait, but with the size of your tank it will delay your problems, probly for a few months and then it will catch up with you and it usualy ends in fish death and money wasted, so I say start over and wait a few weeks. Trust me when I say, if you take your time you will shortly have a fish tank that will capture your attention for hours at a time. Chris |
