I have an established 20 gallon tall tank with an angelfish that is 3 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches long including fins. I was thinking of adding some ottos or black neons.

Both ottos and black neons are a good choice and compatible for that tank. The only thing is the angelfish might be a little crowded when fully grown as it will double its current size.

How many ottos and black neons could I get?

Don't worry about my angelfish out growing my tank, when it gets too big I can exchange it for a smaller one.

It is also possible that the Angel will eat or at least try to eat the Black Neons.

When my Rummynose Tetra where small, my fully grown Angel ate 2 of them.

Angelfish need AT LEAST a 30g tall. Also, they may eat the neons.

I don't mean to hijack your thread or give you a hard time, but I have to say that it really bothers me when people buy fish that they know will grow too large for their current tanks with the idea that when the fish gets too big they will trade it in for a smaller one only to repeat the process. These are living things, not cars. Their value does not depreciate the older it gets, and as pets that we take into our homes to care for, they deserve better than being thrown away for a newer, younger model when they no longer suit us. If you cannot provide a suitable home for a pet, then ethically, you perhaps shouldn't bring that pet home to begin with, or you should plan to upgrade to suit your pets needs.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

I agree.

I personally don't think an angelfish should live in a 20g. I think atleast a 29g is a minimum, and I wouldn't put one in a 29g. Mine swim around alot and have grown very tall. I think they would feel cramped in a 20g or a 29g.

With an angel in a 20gH, I wouldn't put anything else, except maybe a few small cories. I wouldn't add any tetras, as the tank is already a little crowded.

I wouldn't put ottos in there because I have heard of angels trying to eat them and the ottos getting stuck in their mouths. So, in a bigger tank I would put them in with an angel, but not in a 20g.

Another thing with the neons, as already stated the angels will eat the neons once big enough. A little something everyone should know is that neons are naturally apart of angels diets in the wild.

Go to my other thread on the same subject: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/threads/27999.1.htm?13#

I made 2 because I meant to put it in a different section. This has some other info about my plans in it.

illustrae: I had gone to another aquarium forum and they said that an angel would be fine in a 20G tall, I knew they got big, but not as big as I was told.

Please make only one thread about any given topic. I'm closing this thread since you've provided everyone with a link to the other one .
