IS THERE ANY WAY TO AVOID TANK MAINTANANCE.Or does anyone have any advise on how to keep in at the minimul. I have a 25 gallon tank and a penguin 175 filter. I was thinking of something that could get the feces out of my water without performing a water change. Anybody know?

if you don't want to do tank MAINTANANCE then don't get a tank!!!:%)

to keep fish healthy you have to do water changes at least once every other week, i do 2 changes every week.

plants can help against waste build up, but if your not perpared to look after the tank well enough the plants will die and you end up with even more work to do.

could get just a few shrimp then dont have to do as much work. but a 25g tank with only a few shrimp will be very boring.

why don't you want to do maintanance, i enjoy changing the water and removing dead leaves etc.

Nothing eats or removes waste other than water changes. From time to time you see products that are called "waste removers" or some such nonsense...the directions always mention that they'll disrupt the balance of the tank, and that they should be used in conjunction with water changes.

A lower stock level with heavy plantings would reduce how fast the nitrAtes rise, but you'll still have to preform maintence. Plastic fish, plastic plants and fake water might be the way to go though.

Hire a tank maintenance service. There are companies out there that provide this for a fee.

Otherwise, there's no way around tank maintenance. It's part of having a healthy aquarium.

gary roland can probably give you some tips for the lazy maintenance person, otherwise you can hire some company as edgar suggests.

If you rigged up a sort of "flow through" system that constantly replaced some of the water, you could eliminate the need to change water manually. But I agree with the others: it's impossible to eliminate maintenance completely.

NO possibly the shortest answer possible. No maintaince no tank. It can be done but after a short time no fish no tank.
In other words a big NONO

Personally I enjoy doing maintanance on my tank as it means you are more involved in fish keeping. I think it is an important part of fishkeeping and if you are not willing to do then what is the point of it all ?

Changing the water is the best way (maybe the only way) to reduce the nitrate level. Plus, I agree with the other posters....changing the water is a hands on event. In what other hobby can you more drastically improve your pet's environment, thus giving them the chance to live longer healthier lives?
