is there any fish in it?

thats is way to high for most fish to live in.

if there are no fish just let it stay unplugged and air cool off.

if there are fish take alot of water out and replace VERY slowly as changing the temp to fast will put them into shock.

Hi,
Yes, the tank it too hot.
ST, be absolutely sure that the heater is not
mis adjusted. Try unplugging it from the wall and see
what happens with the tank temperature.

What kind of light(s) are you using in the hood over the
tank. Are they the screw in incandescent bulbs? If so
remove them and go to the nearest hardware store and
purchase the screw in fluorescent bulbs. They will run
much cooler and not heat up the water like incandescent
bulbs do.

If the room you have the tank in gets that hot, then you
have only two options. Take the lid off the tank and
set up a fan to blow across the water, preferably riling
the surface while it does. Or, purchase a "chiller" for the
tank. Or, move the tank to a cooler room such as the
basement, or where the A/C is running.

my tank is in the basement right now and is near an a/c vent....i dont have any fish in it but the temperature has dropped to 85, which still seems to be too high for fish. i do believe the light is a flourescent light its one long bulb across the top of the tank....ill try keeping the light off to see what happens.....and ill look into placing a fan or getting what a "chiller" for the tank if the problem continues.......thanks
