I have been reading some other sites and talking to some local fish people and they all recommend 20% twice a week. I have watched my 39 gal tank very close and I have seen no adverse affects.

Prime is a water conditioner. It neutralizes ammonia and chlorine. It is one of the most concentrated water conditioners on the market, I believe, so it is my favorite. Don't be alarmed by the slightly sulfuric smell.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

What is prime?

I use one of those Python syphons for my water changes, so the water goes directly from sink to tank while refilling. When that is taking place, we squirt the appropriate amount of Stress Zyme in (which is a dechlorinator).

I have successfully done water changes of 75% in a week before. Like said before it depends on the bio load of the fish. A keen eye is always good too. If you notice a haze right above your subsrate its a good idea to do at least a 20% water change. Eyes, ears, senses are the best maintanance anyone uses. If you see, hear, or sense something is wrong, do a water change, it really can't hurt anything except your time and effort. For myself, I'm too lazy to do that much, so for the most part I do about 50% water change every 2 weeks. Don't forget to use prime if you have water that is treated with chemicals. Otherwise it can kill your fish.

anf_redrider, fortnight = 14 days
3.7854litres = 1 us gal

55 us gal tank = 208.19 litres
http://www.teaching-english-in-japan.net/conversion/gallons

I do 25-30% water change with a gravel vac. Filters once aweek if required.(Sometimes twice) Canister filter 2-3 weeks.
Very heavy stocked tanks.

Looking for an average, how often would you all do a water change on a 75 gallon tank? And how much would you take out each time (1/4 ... 1/3 ... maybe more)? This is an established tank. Thanks.

I do a 50Lt water change every week for a 5ft 320lt tank.
Even though I have a very good filtration system.
I completly clean out the Eheim Canister every two months.

No, usually it is recommended to do water changes every week to fortnight. I do water changes on my 20 gallon and smaller every week, while the planted 55 gets water changes every other week.

Isn't the rule of thumb to change 20-25% every 2-4 weeks? I usually do a water change every two weeks, but I have smaller tanks (10 and 20 gallon). The only tanks I do weekly changes on are my betta tanks 1-2 gallons each.

Right now I'm doing weekly for the ten gallon, too, because I'm rather overstocked with a guppy who refuses to stop having babies, irregardless of the males that have been moved out of the tank. Silly girl, stop storing up the babies!

My fish are still very tiny, in that huge tank. I don't think they are causing overload. So maybe every 2-3 weeks, do a 1/4 - 1/3 change?

It dpends on the bio-load of the fish in the tank, but myself I do 25% changes every week to nine days on average for my tanks.
